HISTORY, HOBBIES, ALL CHARACTERS
CLARK KENT/SUPERMAN
- can drink a gallon of milk for breakfast
- recycles (of course)
- watches with interest as the newsroom is invaded by beautiful people
for a photo shoot
- seems to flirt back with passing model, Elle Taylor according to
Cat, who looks him in the eye, watching her walk away for quite a
while
- is surprised that Lois has never played hooky from work or school
and takes the opportunity to kid her about it
- wisely turns away and looks at his watch when she becomes angry at
being thought not a fun person
- working on a story about a dock strike where the sides are not that
far apart, doesn’t see the changes in behavior happening around the
newsroom
- is suddenly aware of Lois sitting on the edge of his desk and asking
what he is doing
- notices her suggestive pose and looks at her suspiciously
- get really suspicious when she compliments his looks and asks her
what it is she wants- research? VCR fixed? A ride to the airport?
Blind date?
- none of these, she says just him- now he knows something is
definitely wrong
- astonished by Perry’s uncharacteristic behavior in addition to
Lois’s, he asks Lois to give him a minute and wanders a few steps
away to try to clear his head and get a handle on the strange events
happening around him
- stopping near the copier room (duplicating ?) he hears quite a bit
of noise inside and lowers his glasses to look through the door and,
though surprised, takes a good look at what Cat and companion are up
to
- turns away and almost stumbles back as Lois slams into him to
announce his minute is up and “Come to mama!”
- gets out of the elevator the next morning and sees that nothing as
changed, whatever was wrong is still wrong
- looking all around he spots Lois sitting alone at her desk, dressed
in a flowery, white dress
- tries to explain to Lois that something is wrong, she is not in
control- she knows! For the first time in her life! And it’s all for
the better!
- tells her to snap out of it, he needs her help, concentrate
- remembers the changes began the previous afternoon and affected
almost everyone in the newsroom, perhaps something they ate or drank
-tells Lois he needs to go downstairs to the newsstand for a while and
promises to be right back
- doesn’t notice when he walks past Lex Luthor
- spends the evening at his apartment looking through piles of fashion
magazines and their perfume ads
- just as he finds an ad for Miranda’s perfumes there is a knock at
the door and he puts it aside to answer
- is dismayed to see it is Lois, still under the influence
- begs her to go home but she barges in and announces this is her home
because he is there
- though he admits he’s thought of her admitting her feelings for
him before, spends a long night keeping Lois from “further
humiliating’ herself
- next morning after the pheromone wears off, he finally gets his
partner back (“I’m going home to get dressed. I’ll be back in an
hour, Don’t even think of keeping me waiting.”)
- at Miranda’s shop he talks to Miranda while Lois looks around,
then lets her take over questioning while he takes a look.
- sees a hidden room, what is in it, and quickly takes an atomizer
from a nearby display
- after taking the perfume to a laboratory for analysis, explains how
it works to Lois
- manages to teases her about not being attracted to her when she
wonders why he wasn’t all over her while under the influence of
Revenge
- discovers, thanks to Jimmy, that Miranda’s research was funded by
Luthor Industries, but this is no surprise to Lois who says Lex funds
half the scientists in the city and probably doesn’t even know her
- escorts Lois to a Daily Planet car but doesn’t get in with her
- after the staff meeting at the Daily Planet the next day, is at his
desk working when Lex Luthor arrives looking for Lois, tells him she
is out running errands
- learns Lex was affected by the pheromone during his date with Lois
but says finding Superman is more important because Miranda made a
threat to spray the entire city with her Revenge scent
- says it will only last 48 hours and is appalled to learn she is
going to us a full strength solution that will affect the population
permanently
- knows this will be catastrophic and says he will fax the police with
Miranda’s description, then try to find Superman
- following Lois’s screams for help to the airport, Superman saves
her and goes after Miranda, catching the airplane just as she releases
the perfume into the atmosphere
- inhales the released Revenge, disables the spraying apparatus, and
blows some of the compound into Miranda’s face and leads her back to
the airport
- when Lois wants to know if the perfume had any affect on him, he
pretends it does and tells her he loves her while Lex groans in
disgust in the background
- at the Daily Planet later, he listens without teasing as she admits,
with many conditions, that she might be attracted to him, and why she
thought he looked like Superman- after she walks away, he laughs
LOIS LANE
- complains they’ll never get any work done with the photo activity
going on
- sarcastically calls the crowd doing the photo shoot “the beautiful
people” as she passes Clark and Jimmy who are admiring the models
- thinks it’s a sad comment on society that people who look, act,
dress or smell a certain way are loved by the world
- reiterates that they won’t get any work done today
- tells Clark she has never played hooky and doesn’t know what’s
so great about it
- says she had fun in school – the chess club, the math club…
(“Wow.”)
- is he saying she’s not a fun person? That she doesn’t know how
to have fun?! Glares at Jimmy, who hasn’t said a word about it.
- reacts with distaste when a woman walks by and sprays them with a
scent from a distinctive atomizer
- predicts it will sell for $300 an ounce, or “highway robbery”
- seated at her desk, she begins looking in Clark’s direction,
smoothing back her hair and unbuttoning her blouse, touching up her
lipstick before getting up to sashay across the floor to his desk
- sits on the desk and swings a leg up beside her and leans across the
desk top after getting his attention
- asked if she is okay, tells him never better, just noticing how
handsome he looks today
- calms his suspicions by silencing him with a finger on his lips- she
doesn’t want anything but him
- grabs Clark and slams him against a wall, when told to get a grip
says she’d love to, and throws her arms around him and tries to kiss
him
- tells him she wants to get out of there, to play hooky- desperately!
– forget about time, work, the rest of the world
- grabs his face again and tries to kiss him but is interrupted
briefly by Perry and Rehalia but her interest in them is short and she
turns back to concentrating on Clark
- waits patiently for Clark to arrive at work and when he does she
runs to him, tossing flower petals into the air and jumping into his
arms
- when he tells her they have to talk, she agrees, she has a lot to
say
- remembers when it all started, and tells Clark what they had for
lunch the day before, Chinese chicken salad and a steak sandwich with
fries
- climbs into his lap and tries to distract him from talking about
what was happening
- Jimmy drops by with a handful of pictures and she gives up trying to
distract Clark, helps him find a shot of Miranda and remembers her
- reluctantly lets him leave for a few minutes and is surprised to see
Lex has come up to her
- assures him they are still on for dinner the following night, but he
has to understand one thing: the only man in the world for her is
Clark Kent
- goes to Clark’s apartment later, telling him “I love you. I want
to spend the rest of my life with you”
- is dressed in a skimpy outfit for the dance of the seven veils and
as she is about to begin the dance she is awestruck to notice Clark
looks “a lot like Superman!”
- next morning awakens to Clark telling her he can’t take it anymore
and if she really wants him, he’s all hers
- rudely shoves him away but then notices what she is wearing and is
mortified to discover she did the dance of the seven veils in its
entirety
- calms down after drinking a cup of unknown hot beverage
- though Clark explains what happened was not her fault, still feels
humiliated, but agrees to help him find Miranda
- is certain Miranda is lying after questioning her at her shop, says
they need proof and is delighted when Clark takes a bottle of the
perfume from his pocket
- is bothered by Clark not having been attracted to her and looks
forward to her date with Lex, a man she knows is attracted her
- is charmed, questioning, flattered, restless and uncomfortable when
Lex begins complimenting her effusively during dinner though she does
think it’s unusual and asks if he’s been drinking
- tells Clark, the next day, that Lex was behaving strangely during
dinner, but says no more when he remarks that must have been a welcome
change
- receives a note at the morning meeting but doesn’t tell Clark it
is from Miranda
- after the meeting she tells Clark she’s leaving to run some
errands, but goes to the airport where Miranda, according to her note,
wants to speak to her “woman to woman”
- enters a small airport hangar and calls to Miranda, who approaches
her and sprays her with a chemical that makes her cough and collapse
- regains consciousness tied by her wrists to a chain and suspended
over a large vat of boiling liquid and screams for Miranda to stop as
the chain begins to lower her toward the boiling liquid
- luckily Superman hears and frees her from the situation just seconds
later and she tells him Miranda has just left in an airplane and is
going to spray the city
- as the plane lands behind Superman, she runs to him and wonders if
the perfume has an affect on him and is overjoyed when he indicates it
has and throws herself on him for a passionate kiss
- reluctantly lets him go after being interrupted by Lex and falls
against Lex as her knees suddenly give out while she watches Superman
fly away
- later denies to Clark she’s unable to admit her true feelings -
it’s ridiculous! – but finally admits that maybe, somewhere very
incredibly deep inside her, is some eensy weensy, microcosmic,
although highly unlikely, possibility that she feels some sort of
unmotivated, completely unrealistic attraction to him
- reveals she’s also figured out why she thought he looked like
Superman – every woman in love thinks her man looks like Superman
PERRY WHITE
- at morning staff meeting, tells Lois to rewrite her fruit fly
article- and put more zing into it
- suggests making the counter-revolution in Russia the lead story
- questions who can keep track after Clark points out it’s a
counter-counter-revolution

wonders what’s going on
- aware of the beautiful women coming into the newsroom but mindful of
his wife, Alice’s, reaction should she find out he was looking
- tells Clark she has spies everywhere
- calls Miranda’s perfume Eau de Sweatsocks
- leaning back in his chair, listening to an Elvis tune, the effects
of the perfume have hit him
- his eyes light up when Rehalia comes into the office to gather trash
- surprises Clark and Lois when he runs out of the office chasing a
screaming Rehalia
- tells them she’s the woman of his dreams, he wants to shower her
with gifts, put her on a golden pedestal
- as for Alice- there’s enough love to go around and hurries after
Rehalia, “Espera mi amor!”
- when Clark tries to tell him Elvis never cheated on Priscilla,
answers, “He never met Rehalia!”
- tells Rehalia to go ahead and file charges against him, if that’s
what she wants, nothing will stop him from loving her
- tells her he’s composed a poem for her called “Rehalia:” I
plucked a rose, I smelled its dew, that fragrant scent embodies you
- she tells him dew doesn’t have a smell and, as she stalks out of
the office, he stares bewildered at the poem, then grabs a pen and
crosses out the offending lines
- leaves the newsroom and meets Lex Luther as he arrives, telling him,
“Gotta run, Lex. Love waits for no man.”
- dressed in black leather, goes to Rehalia’s apartment and stands
outside her apartment doorway singing “Burning Love”
- just as he is finishing the song, the door opens and Rehalia’s
furious husband steps forward and hits Perry in the face
- is nursing a headache in his office when Clark and Lois come in and
stare at him in shock
- tells Lois his bandaged nose only hurts when he laughs and that
won’t be happening soon because Rehalia has filed a sexual
harassment suit against him, and his wife Alice has kicked him out
- listens as they explain he has a defense and what has happened, but
the pheromone will only take care of the lawsuit- what about Alice?
- told to fight for her, shower her with gifts, write her poems, put
her on a golden pedestal, he considers it and decides, “Nah! She’d
never buy it.”
- staff meeting next day, exchanges a look with Rehalia as she comes
in for the trash
- tells Clark she has dropped the lawsuit and Alice has let him back
home on a trial basis
- thanks Lois for rewriting the fruit fly piece
JIMMY OLSEN
- questions the safety of Malathion,
the spray scheduled to be used to treat the fruit fly infestation, if
residents of the city have to keep their pets indoors during and after
spraying
- is star struck by the models in the photo shoot
- wonders if a woman like April Stephens would notice a guy like him,
when no one answers, says, “I guess not”
- sits with Clark and enjoys the activity in the room, including the
beautiful women who walk past giving Clark interested looks
- approaches April Stephens, after being affected by the perfume,
wearing a hunting vest and carrying a camera
- introduces himself as James, James Olsen, well known photojournalist
whose covered many wars
- asks if she’d like to have cocktails tomorrow night at her place?
- suggests his place then, when she get up and leaves abruptly
- arrives at an unidentified nightclub, members only, and tries to
bribe his way inside but is unsuccessful
- talks briefly to April Stephens but she isn’t impressed and sics
the bouncer on him
- dejectedly turns to leave and walks into the street into the path of
an oncoming vehicle
- saved by Superman but wonders what happened and Superman takes him
home
- comes to the staff meeting with a note for Lois and tells her he’s
back to normal, plain old Jimmy
- sees April Stephens get off the elevator and says he has to talk to
her, walking away before a concerned Perry can stop him
- apologizes for his behavior, saying simply he wasn’t himself
- is not expecting her to grab his shirt and give him a kiss that
leaves him stunned. The staff applauds.
- walks past Lex Luthor who is standing by Lois’s desk and tells him
to hurry and get his pets inside because the fruit fly spraying will
start in a few minutes
CAT GRANT
- reminds everyone this is the day of the photo shoot using the Daily
Planet newsroom as a back drop for the introduction of a new fragrance
- assures him marketing set it up months ago
- watches the people entering and identifies the models, and gets
Perry’s permission to leave the meeting and try to get an interview
with April Stephens
- conducts the interview on the move and gives her a tiresome look
when she won’t answer the questions
- angry at losing her original document in the copier, is relieved to
see a tech has arrived to have a look at it
- watches the repair tech start to work, then reaches up and takes an
earring off and steps closer to him, a smile crossing her face
- disheveled after two days in the copier room, she isn’t ready to
admit the copier is fixed and deliberately pulls a part from it
- goes to the staff meeting the next day and is puzzled when asked how
much of the pheromone spray she inhaled- asks what spray? She didn’t
get sprayed.
LEX LUTHOR
- is fencing with an opponent in an office, breaking and cutting
through things until the opponent is disarmed
- stabs the opponent in the chest, leaving him stunned that Lex has
drawn blood
- says nothing as the man walks past him and out of the room, merely
wipes the blood from his blade tip
- tells Miranda when she come to complain about her research being
stopped, “I don’t fund losers.”
- and their romance? “You were an itch, you have been scratched.”
- dismisses her to take a call from Lois Lane
- tell Lois he is looking forward to their dinner date and will send a
car for her
- working at his desk, is surprised to be interrupted by someone in a
fencing uniform
- thinking it’s Emile, he asks for a moment and is surprised to be
stabbed in the chest by the tip of a sword
- looking up in shock and anger, sees it is Miranda holding the epee
on him
- asks what he can do for her and is told return her phone calls
- is surprised by the newspaper she gives him with it’s emphasis on
hearts and love
- is speechless by what he sees at the Daily Planet’s newsroom
- finds Lois, who tells him she hadn’t noticed things were different
in the newsroom
- confirms their date is still on and observes her behavior closely,
assessing the effects of the perfume on her and obviously reaching a
conclusion
- is cooling a bottle of champagne when Miranda arrives and they
haggle over percentages of the profits from sales of Revenge
- as he turns away to pour the champagne, he is sprayed, generously,
with Revenge but it has no affect on him, he doesn’t mix business
with other people’s pleasure, dismisses her to prepare for his
dinner date with Lois
- during dinner he begins acting strangely and is aware of it but is
unable to stop himself, saying he never drinks alone, is always in…
control
- before dinner is over he falls asleep in his chair and wakens there
the next morning and is tols by Nigel that Miss Lane left early and he
drove her home
- is shaken by his behavior, his loss of control and begins to
remember bits and pieces of what happened the previous day
- recalling Miranda’s parting words, he’s appalled and tells Nigel
he must get to the Daily Planet as soon as possible and find Superman!
- at the Daily Planet he stops at Lois’s desk and prepares to leave
a note, and discovering she is out running errands, tells Clark he is
there to apologize for his behavior the night before
- knowing full well Clark is aware of what he means, because of the
events of the previous day, he tells him Miranda sprayed him with
Revenge yesterday to make him fall in love with her, but it backfired
when Lois arrived just then
- is very aware of the way this news has affected Clark, and he goes
on to say it isn’t important exactly what happened, because he needs
to find Superman
- admits Miranda worked for him and relates her threat to make all of
Metropolis suffer love spurned and only Superman can find her and stop
her
- lingers by Lois’s desk after Clark hurries off to find Superman
and is puzzled by Jimmy’s comments as he passes, then suddenly
realizes Miranda must be planning to use the airplane for fruit fly
spraying to expose the city to Revenge
- arrives at the airport just as the plane lands and the police
arrive, and rushes up to Lois who is waiting for Superman
- watches in dismay as Lois throws herself into Superman’s arms and
they share a long, passionate kiss (“I may throw up!”)
- marches over to break up the kiss, “Excuse me! Hello! I was just
wondering. Will Miranda be permanently…” Superman replies, “No.
I diluted it. She’ll be okay soon.”
- stands by a roaring fire and aimlessly tosses bills from a bundle of
money into it to burn
- something terrible has happened, he tells Nigel, something
catastrophic, something worse than the collapse of the world financial
market- in his own “strange, perverted way” he has succumbed… he
has fallen in love, hopelessly, eternally, in love with Lois Lane.
“I’m really in love with her. I’m doomed.”
MIRANDA
- angrily confronts Lex for cutting off her funding and stopping her
research, calls him a “rotten little son of a-“
- two years earlier brought Luthor the offer of a working, practical
solution to her theory in six months, claiming adding an animal
pheromone to her perfume would cause the wearer to lose all
inhibitions
- insists she can now do it and can prove it: the solid compound
didn’t work but the liquid form does
- tells him her work was a labor of love for him but he is no longer
interested in her
- leaves when Lex dismisses her to take a phone call from Lois Lane
- sees and picks up a newspaper with an article by Lois Lane on a
nearby chair
- at her shop with her black cat, opens an envelope with an invitation
to attend the premiere party for a new fragrance to be held at the
Daily Planet
- realizes she can prove to Lex her solution does work
- at the Daily Planet, goes throughout the newsroom spraying as many
people as possible with the perfume and waits near the elevators to
wait for it to go to work on them
- satisfied with what she sees, she leaves and, the following morning,
goes to see Lex
- demanding he tell his man to bring the car around, she tells him
they are going to the Daily
Planet and gives him a copy of the morning paper
- is a trained chemist, top of her class at MIT
- compliments Clark on his remarkable olfactory sense after he
correctly identifies an animal
pheromone in her Revenge perfume
- claims she has no idea what Lois is talking about when accused of
using Revenge in the Daily
Planet newsroom
- talks with Lex to finalize their partnership for marketing Revenge,
but when she sprays him and
it has no affect on him, get angry when he dismisses her, telling her
he isn’t interested in
renewing their romance
- tells Lex soon all of Metropolis will know the feeling of spurned
love and leaves
- opens a locked cabinet and begins removing bottles of perfume
labeled 100% solution and
spills a spot while mixing it and her cat tastes some of it, then
tears out of a locked cat carrier
a few moments later- “Love is in the air” she muses
- looks at an article written by Lois Lane and angrily sticks a knife
blade through the byline
- lures Lois to the airport where she has replaced the Malathion spray
in the tanks aboard a
small airplane with the 100% solution of Revenge, telling Lois she’s
doing it because she is
just jealous – if she can’t have Lex, no one can
- after her plans are foiled by Superman she pleads with him to help
her as she’s being led away,
“I love you!” she tells him, then sees Lex and corrects herself,
“No! Lex, I love you! Will you
wait for me?” “No!” he replies petulantly.
REHALIA
- a day shift custodian at the Daily Planet, given full access to the
newsroom area by Perry White
- enters his office to get the trash as he is listening to an Elvis
record, unaware Perry is showing an interest in a specific area of her
body

- tells Perry her husband has advised her to file a sexual harassment
suit against him
- is surprised when he tells her to go ahead, he’s content to
worship her from afar
- stalks out angrily after he reads a poem he’s written for her
- files the harassment suit after he comes to her apartment and
serenades her from the hallway
- later drops the charges after discovering what caused the problem
APRIL STEPHENS

answers, exasperating the gossip columnist
- brushes off Jimmy’s attempt to impress her by getting up and
running away
- is surprised to see Jimmy at a nightclub as she is leaving and stops
to talk to him briefly
- again, he fails to impress her and she walks away after calling for
the bouncer to take care of him
- goes to the Daily Planet the next day and is confronted by an
apologetic Jimmy and accepts his apology in a way he, and the news
room staff, won’t soon forget
NIGEL
- Luthor’s butler, announces Miranda’s arrival at the penthouse
- wakens Lex after letting him spend the night sleeping in his chair

the perfume, his mind is clouded

Elle Taylor
- a model identified by Cat Grant
- walks past Clark and Jimmy and gives CK a long eye contact look
Emile
- Lex's fencing partner/instructor
- was speechless after Lex ended a match by actually stabbing him hard
enough to draw blood
NAME THAT TUNE
“Burning Love” by Elvis Presley plays in Perry’s office as the
pheromone begins to take affect on him.
Perry later sings the song himself outside Rehalia’s apartment door.
SHAMELESS SELF
PROMOTION or SHAMELESS SELF ASSURANCE?
When Superman stops Miranda in the act of carrying out her plan, he
exhales some of the Revenge into her face knowing
she will fall for him and follow him back to the airport (
“Anywhere, honey!”)

FRUIT FLY SPRAYING
MISCELLANEOUS
1- “Exclusive”- the name of the fragrance being introduced at the
photo shoot
2- In this episode “Managing Editor” is printed on a sign on the
wall near the door to Perry’s office and not written on the window
of his door
3- A blackboard in the staff meeting area says “Daily Planet Story
Outline, Who, What, When, Where, How” (a reminder to professionals?)
4- Jungle Passion, one of Miranda’s fragrances which she recommends
to Clark, for a love gone sour, made from the white petals of a flower
grown only in Micronesia
5- MIT, university Miranda attended
6- 150, Miranda’a pulse rate is over this number indicating to Clark
she is lying to him and Lois
7- 60/40, the split in profits Lex and Miranda agree upon
8- 48 hours, the duration of the effects of Revenge which Lex is
concerned about
9- 1%, the strength of the 48 hour solution of Revenge
10- 100%, effects of the full strength solution would be permanent
11- LexCorp, Tokyo, a subsidiary of Lex’s business empire
12- a no good ‘Hound Dog” – what Alice calls Perry
13- “Heartbreak Hotel” where he finds himself now that she’s
kicked him out
14- A partially seen side bar to Lois’ fruit fly article states that
a storm caused a back-up of some kind that relates to the fruit fly
problem, as the side bar is tucked under the Lane article’s headline
15- Some of the ‘zinged’ up Lane article says, ‘While the final
outcome of this situation is to be determined, it is possible that
when the factions come together… conference scheduled … week…’
16- While Cat’s reaction to the questions about how much of the
pheromone spray she got is funny, it’s known that her obsession with
Phil the fixer lasted 48 hours, too. Totally at home with her
reputation, could she have been pulling the legs of her gullible
fellow staffers with her innocent act? She’s already told Clark
she’ll protect that reputation no matter what even if it means never
admitting nothing happened between them.
17- As for Phil, he must have gotten a good whiff too as he walked
through the newsroom to the copier room, or Stamina is his middle
name.
He also must be a tech the company that rents the copiers out to
businesses, hires on a case by case basis because no one comes looking
for him during the two days he spends in the copy room.
18- Clark does have a great sense of humor. After Lex comes to the
newsroom looking for Lois and spends some time letting Clark’s
imagination run away with itself thinking about Lex’s insinuations
that he was all over Lois the night before while under the influence
of Revenge, he gets a little revenge himself. Pretending to be
affected by the pheromone and kissing an elated Lois while Lex must
watch and squirm with disgust in the background – payback’s a
b***h, isn’t it, Lex?
OBSERVATIONS IN REAL LIFE
1- A personal favorite scene in this episode is Perry White laying
back in his office chair and just feeling that Elvis song playing in
the background, just his version of laid back rocking out. It’s
funny but somehow sweet and cute at the same time. (Lane Smith, bless
you, you were wonderful in this role.)
2- Something I never thought about before: Why did April Stephens
return to the newsroom when she did? The photo shoot was long over.
Cat had gotten her interview, such as it was. Miss Stephens didn’t
ask for anyone, just arrived and stood looking over the activity going
on. Perhaps she heard what happened at the Daily Planet the day she
was there and met that cute but tall tale spinning young man who liked
her but came on too strong? Perhaps she came to find a way to
apologize for treating him so badly when it wasn’t his fault his
behavior was so over the top, and because he was nearly killed simply
